Your tumor is the same way. If you manage to keep upright after the full-body assault of poisonous drugs, toxic chemo and deadly radiation, the cancer can come back and chew another hole in your body somewhere else.
Chemo in particular can actually do just the opposite of what’s promised, turning a slumbering tumor into a highly agitated killer. It causes severe DNA damage in healthy cells known as fibroblasts, forcing them to pump out a protein called WNT16B.
This protein is like Miracle-Gro for tumors—and in one study, fibroblast cells damaged by chemo increased their output of WNT16B by 3,000 percent.

We already know tea drinkers are less likely to get cancer and less likely to suffer a recurrence, and cutting-edge science shows why: a compound inside green tea can destroy cancer cells without damaging the healthy cells around it.
It’s called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (mercifully abbreviated to EGCG), and it’s like a team of assassins inside your body. It sneaks up on cancer cells and knocks out their power supply, aka the mitochondria.
That causes the cell to churn out the reactive oxygen species that will eventually kill it.
Cancer cells actually have some built-in protection from that kind of damage, but the EGCG shuts that down, too.

One recent study shows how the oleocanthal found in extra-virgin olive oil puts healthy cells around a tumor into a protected state of suspended animation, like something in a sci-fi flick.
Then, with the healthy cells protected, the oleocanthal massacres the nearby cancer cells by cracking open their lysosomes, which are small packets of enzymes that can terminate the cancer cells: The enzymes leak out and the cancer cell dies in as little as 30 minutes, according to research published in Molecular and Cellular Oncology.
When it’s all over, the healthy cells wake up and it’s as if the cancer was just a bad dream.
3) Cocoa: The key ingredient in chocolate is packed with cancer-fighting flavonoids that rob tumor cells of their ability to spread like wildfire.
In one study, the pentameric procyanidin in cocoa blocked certain proteins in breast cancer cells, which effectively blocked cell division. You block cell division, you block the cancer.
In another, cocoa polyphenols shut down the reactive oxygen species that allows colon cancer cells to spread. And in yet one more study, those polyphenols stopped the spread of prostate cancer cells.
Of course, most cancers love sugar more than the average 6-year-old, so if your cocoa comes in the form of a bar with HERSHEY stamped across the front, you could be doing more harm than good.
Use pure cocoa powder instead. Work it into your smoothies, coffee and even your recipes. If it clumps up, run it through a food processor first.
4) Garlic: Cancer cells are like movie monsters; they refuse to die. The usual rules of cellular death simply do not apply to them.
But just like garlic can take down a vampire, compounds locked in garlic such as allicin can turn cancer cells into mortal cells—driving a stake right through the heart of the cell by inducing the cell death process known as apoptosis.
For maximum benefits, crush fresh garlic cloves and let them sit for about 15 minutes. This causes an enzyme reaction that unleashes a burst of healthy compounds.

Many cancer cells rely on what’s known as oxysterol-binding proteins, or ORPs, to grow. When those ORPs bind to a fat called PI4P, cancer cells grow like crazy—and you get a tumor.
Fortunately for you, ORPs would rather bind to cholesterol—so get plenty of it, and your ORPs won’t touch you.
This isn’t radical stuff. It’s basic biology that disappeared into the anti-cholesterol propaganda of recent decades.
6) Chamomile: Are you just using chamomile to help you sleep? The herb has cancer prevention benefits too.
Cancer cells, as I mentioned, can cheat death in a number of ways. But chamomile is packed with a compound called apigenin that can help strip cancer cells of that “super power” so they die on schedule.
If you have a tumor, apigenin could slow its growth. And if you don’t, apigenin can stop it from forming in the first place.
While much of the research on apigenin has been done on breast cancer cells, there’s every reason to believe it can work the same magic on other forms of the disease.
