The spicy secret to surviving your bypass surgery

The spicy secret to surviving your bypass surgery

Surviving a heart attack is one thing——but surviving the treatments for a heart attack is quite another.

Stents... drugs... surgery... and just when you think you’ve been through it all, you’re back in the hospital for another round of stents, drugs, and surgery.

If these things really worked, why do so many heart patients——even the ones who follow every doctor’s order——end up back in the hospital again and again and again?

Easy answer: It’s because mainstream heart treatments aren’t just ineffective——they’re downright dangerous.

Drug-coated stents, for example, KILL up to 2,000 Americans every single year. Angioplasty has been shown to have virtually no benefit——and oodles of risk. And let’s not forget that one of the most common blood thinners of all, warfarin, does double duty as rat poison.

And if you’re about to undergo bypass surgery... well, make sure you get a second opinion from someone who doesn’t collect money off bypass surgeries. Not only does this procedure come with far more risk than surgeons ever let on, but you probably don’t even need it in the first place.

But let’s say you’re the rare case who really needs that bypass. Or maybe your doc is just more convincing than me. Whatever the reason, if you’re going to have a bypass, there’s one supplement you need to add to your regimen ASAP——because it can mean...

The difference between life and death.

This life-giving miracle is curcumin, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound locked inside the spice turmeric. If you like Indian food, you’re in luck——curry is loaded with the stuff.

It’s more than just a great way to save a bland meal. As the latest research out of Thailand shows, curcumin just so happens to be one of the best ways to save your life, too.

Researchers gave 121 bypass patients either a placebo or one-gram capsules of curcumin and told them to take their pills four times a day for three days before the procedure and five days after.

A full 30 percent of those on the placebo suffered a heart attack in that time (what’d I tell you about the risks of this surgery?) versus just 13 percent of those who took the curcumin capsules.

That translates into a 65 percent lower risk of a heart attack after bypass surgery thanks to the curcumin. They also had lower levels of C-reactive protein, aka CRP, an inflammation marker that usually spells trouble for your heart.

Of course, it’s hard to say how many lives were “saved” when the bypass surgery itself is actually a killer——and like I said earlier, most patients don’t even need it in the first place.

Here’s an item from the Chicago Sun-Times: “This year some 100,000 people with serious heart disease will submit to a surgical operation called ‘coronary bypass’ to relieve their pain and disability. The total cost of the care... is conservatively estimated at more than $1 billion.”

In the article, a leading expert warned that many if not most of those surgeries were unnecessary. I point this out because the article was written in 1976——and that same expert warned way back then that too many new facilities were being built to perform bypass operations.

“In a short time, we are going to have an excess of those facilities,” Dr. Donald C. Harrison warned.

Dr. Harrison later served as president of the American Heart Association. It’s a shame, because the man missed his true calling——as a psychic. Everything he warned of has come true in spades as we now indeed have an excess of those facilities.

But of course, they don’t sit empty.

“If you build it, they will come”——especially if you use fear to bring them through the door. In fact...

Bypass surgery is about raising cash, not improving health.

The proof is in the pudding: A 1991 analysis found that up to 45 percent of bypass operations were unnecessary or at least questionable——and even that’s an incredibly lowball figure. I’ve seen other numbers suggesting that up to 85 percent are completely unnecessary.

So why are these invasive, dangerous and unnecessary operations so popular? Let me count the ways: The surgeon makes $3,714 and the anesthesiologist collects $2,495, according to Healthcare Blue Book——not bad for a job that can be started after breakfast and finished before lunch.

And that’s pocket change compared to the hospital’s cut: A cool $50K for each bypass——and all they need to provide is a room and Jell-O.

With more than half a million bypass surgeries performed annually, it adds up to close to $30 billion each year for surgeons, anesthesiologists and hospitals.

Quite a racket, if you ask me.

The best way to make sure you’re not caught up in this scam is to not have heart problems in the first place.

Easier said than done? Not on your life. If you follow my dietary advice and stick to healthy animal fats and avoid sugar and other carbs, your heart will be a fortress and you can bypass all talk of bypass surgery.

And for a little extra help, turn to the very same spice that protected all those bypass patients in Thailand. Curcumin is so good for your heart that animal studies have shown it can actually prevent or even reverse heart failure.

And that’s not even close to everything curcumin can do. In fact, the website Green Med Info reports that this miracle compound can...

Cure, treat or prevent 586 diseases and conditions!

Curcumin can fight cancer, soothe irritable bowels, ease arthritis pain and raise levels of HDL cholesterol——the stuff even the mainstream calls “good” (but you know it’s all “good” in my book).

Other studies have found it can help protect the brain from the damage that can lead to dementia (I’ve got more on that on page 6).

If this stuff had been invented in a lab, you can bet it would be the next zillion-dollar wonder drug. But since it’s completely natural, inexpensive, and widely available, it gets ignored.

Don’t ignore it. The best way to get it is to eat loads of curry and sprinkle turmeric onto your food. Or just try a supplement.
