Americans asked for “change” when they elected Barack Obama as the next president—and, boy, are we about to get it. You’ll be seeing changes to our medical system, as Obama & Co. push us toward universal health care (a.k.a., socialized medicine). You’ll also notice changes to your bank account, as President-elect Obama makes good on his promise to “spread the wealth around.”
There’s plenty about this guy that should scare the pants off of you—I’m not sure I can add to what’s already been said. But I’ll tell you, there’s one policy area where the incoming president and I see eye to eye—stem cells.
Obama says he’s going to overturn President Bush’s ban on federal funding for stem cell research. I couldn’t be more thrilled.
It’s not often that something comes along that has the potential to change medicine forever. And when it does, you can be darned sure that people who don’t understand it or are frightened by it are going to rise up in opposition. So you should hardly be surprised by all the scare tactics being used by stem cell opponents.
Here’s what they’ll never tell you—stem cell therapy is a revolutionary approach that will transform modern healing the same way antibiotics did in the 20th century. I’m talking about a therapy that will one day be the basis for treating Parkinson’s, diabetes, heart disease, ALS, cancer, arthritis, MS, senile brain degeneration, stroke, and more.

Let me explain—when you have a health problem, such as heart disease or diabetes, it arises as the result of cell death. Every cell in your body will eventually die, but when cells die too soon and your body can’t replace them fast enough, you develop a disease.

This revolutionary treatment is going to make organ transplants obsolete
Many of my fellow doctors and I have always considered organ transplants to be barbaric and often futile procedures. Few people realize the life a transplant patient has to endure.
It’s unnatural to implant an organ from one person to another because your immune system will reject that tissue as foreign. So to prevent the body from doing its job and rejecting the new organ, doctors fool your body by depressing your immune system with immune-suppressing drugs.
It’s like giving a person AIDS.
Not literally, of course, but the result is the same—a dysfunctional immune system that makes even the slightest illnesses life-threatening. Many people with AIDS eventually die of pneumonia—a condition that could be treated if their immune systems worked. It’s the same deal with organ recipients. And when you take into account that an organ transplant is done only as a last resort—when the patient is already very ill—it doesn’t bode well for success.
Of course, all of this is assuming you can get an organ transplant to begin with. Finding donors is no easy process, and most organs are reserved for the young anyway. The majority of “oldsters” are excluded from organ transplantation because their bodies aren’t strong enough to handle the procedure and its after effects.
Meet the procedure that gives you years of your life back...
If you think I’m going to tell you that stem cell transplantation could one day replace organ transplants, think again. What I’m saying is that SCT could take the place of many organ transplants right now.
In fact, SCT was started many years before organ transplantation. For obvious reasons, it was ignored by doctors—especially surgeons. It just wasn’t as sexy as changing body parts from one patient to another. Why should a surgeon be interested in a simple injection that would eliminate the necessity of spectacular (and very risky) organ transplants?
SCT is a simple procedure that doesn’t involve exchanging body parts or performing any kind of major surgery. Here’s how it works: Rather than transplanting an entire organ, tiny cells of the desired organ—liver stem cells, for example—are injected in the skin in the vicinity of the liver (in this case, below the ribs on the right side). The liver stem cells will migrate to their home in the liver.
Once they get there, the stem cells replace the dead cells from the diseased organ. Amazingly, they can also rejuvenate the cells of the organ that aren’t functioning but are still alive.
And one of the best parts is that all of this can be done without the immunosuppression necessary for a conventional organ transplant. Plus, it doesn’t have to be done as a last resort—so there’s no need to wait until you’ve got one foot in the grave to take care of the problem.
The preparation for stem cell injections usually takes a few weeks—no anxiety, no donors, no pain, and no rehabilitation. And, I might add, the cost is far below transplant surgery.
While organ transplantation is a last resort, you can use SCT in the early stage of disease, while the patient is reasonably healthy. Doesn’t that make so much more sense than waiting for several miserable years until you’re sick enough—and your organ is diseased enough—for a transplant to occur?
It’s like getting years of your life back!
I predict that, as stem cell transplantation takes root, transplant surgery as we know it will rapidly disappear. As hard-headed as the American medical establishment may be, even they can’t permanently ignore a simpler, less traumatic—and yes, even less expensive—procedure.
