How the heart-health nuts unleashed the trans-fat debacle

Too many of the so-called experts tell you that vegetable fat is the key to a healthy heart. What are they thinking? Almost all vegetable oils are polyunsaturated fats. And can you guess what happens when you heat a polyunsaturated fat? IT TURNS INTO A TRANS FAT! That’s right– the same trans fats that are being outlawed everywhere. Why in the world do the American Heart Association, the USDA, and the vegetarian puddin’ heads keep promoting this junk?

The “naturally occurring” unhydrogenated canola, sunflower, and safflower oils are only unhydrogenated until the oil industry makes them hydrogenated. None of these oils should be used in cooking.

So what have all these vegetable oils given us? As I said earlier, the nationwide switch from coconut oil to vegetable oils unleashed the entire trans-fats debacle.

Experts are now saying that trans fats are responsible for between 30,000 and 100,000 heart disease deaths per year. Harvard researchers are calling trans fats “the biggest food processing disaster in U.S. history.”

I find it amusing that after all these years, the FDA is only now mounting an attack against trans fats. “Trans fats can no longer lurk, hidden, in our food choices,” FDA commissioner Mark McClellan told reporters. They haven’t been lurking and hiding anywhere–their dangers are, and have been, well known for decades.

So what are companies going to do to atone for the millions of heart attacks and deaths they are most likely responsible for because they ignored the science for 30 years? I recommend they be forced to dine on a bowl of Doritos, soaked in Pepsi-Cola, thrice daily for the rest of their felonious lives.
